Replacing Missing Teeth
Crossgate Dental offers three excellent options to restore your complete smile and regain confidence: dentures, bridges and implants. Each has its own advantages, depending on your specific needs.
Dentures
Dentures are a popular option for replacing multiple missing teeth. They offer several advantages, being the most cost-effective way to restore your smile. Modern dentures can achieve a natural look and require minimal alteration to your remaining teeth. However, dentures are removable, which some people find inconvenient. They also cover more than just the area of the missing teeth, and getting used to speaking and eating with them can take some time.
Dentures come in two main types: full acrylic or those with a metal framework for added stability. Our dentists will discuss your individual needs and preferences to determine the best type for you.
Bridges
Bridges are a popular choice for replacing one or a few missing teeth. They offer a fixed solution that looks and functions much like natural teeth. A lab-made porcelain tooth is permanently attached to one or more adjacent teeth, restoring your smile and bite. However, bridges rely on the health of the surrounding teeth, so larger gaps or multiple missing teeth may not be ideal candidates.
Traditional bridges involve shaping the adjacent teeth to support the bridge, which some patients prefer to avoid. To address this, adhesive bridges have become increasingly common in recent decades. These bridges utilise a hidden “wing” for attachment with strong cements, requiring minimal preparation of the neighbouring teeth. This makes them a more conservative option, particularly for smaller gaps and often at a lower cost. However, they tend to be less suitable at the back of the mouth.
Implants
Dental implants are the closest thing to a natural tooth. They are often the preferred option for patients who struggle with dentures or when bridges aren’t suitable, such as for larger gaps, weak surrounding teeth, or missing teeth in the back of the mouth. Implants boast very high success rates, but they involve a surgical procedure and are the most expensive option of the three.
